Interaction Design: Task 2 proposal

For this Museum project I am planning to create an app for the Marine Time Museum that will hopefully bring out the creativity in young children and adults alike. The app that I am planning to create is a creative app were you would scan a QR code that is next to a piece of scrimshaw using your tablet and it will appear on your screen with the ability to rotate the artifact by swiping your finger along the screen and you can also zoom in and out by pinching the screen and on the right side there will be a box with the information of the artifact on there to give a better understanding of what it is, and bellow that is a “GAME” button and if pressed it brings you to a screen where the scrimshaw is displayed but the scrimshaw is blank so that the user can create their own design for scrimshaw using the tools and colours that are on the page. When they are finished creating their piece of art they have the option to share it and when the button is pressed it will bring up a panel where you can write in your email address to send it to.

The target audience that I am aiming for is males/females above the age of 6. This is because the app will be very simple to use. The information and the artifact itself will be mainly for the more mature audience who would like to know more about the artifact it would also be easier to read for the older people. The children of the audience would be more interested in the game of the app, to design the artwork themselves. The only issue with the target audience would be the children because some of them might not know how to scan a QR code, so then an adult such as a parent or museum staff should then step in to help out.

The reason I am creating this app is because I have wondered around the Maritime museum recently and I have noticed that there isn’t enough people visiting it then I also noticed that the place is kind of outdated and this is because it is not keeping up with the modern themes of museums, interactivity. Interactivity is becoming more and more common in museums because it appeals to the younger audience because they are so used to using phones tablets and computers, trying to get them to look at the exhibits to learn something is near impossible so my idea is to create an app that can keep children on their tablets but also learn and have fun while doing that.

Photography Proposal

Theme: Back Alleys.

For my first project for my photography project I have decided to go with a theme that is based on the back alleys in town. These back alleys can be anywhere from the alleys in old town to new town. The reason behind me deciding with this theme is because I have noticed throughout growing up that there are a lot of areas in town that still haven’t changed in years while area’s you wouldn’t expect to change have changed. What I am interested in the most about this project is the back alleys in old town because (obviously) those alleys are the oldest and have more history to them. I also understand the risks in taking the photos needed to complete this project, such as being weary of roads and the back alleys themselves as they could be an easy place to get mugged but to counter these risks I will travel with more people and make sure to use the crossings when needed.
